La Casa de la Maestra

Located in the quiet hamlet of Vilavedelle, on the Asturian shore of the Eo estuary — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — La Casa de la Maestra  welcomes guests into a sanctuary where nature, education and history are united. Surrounded by the deep blue of the estuary and the lush green of the woods and hills, this restored traditional home offers an escape for the mind and soul.

The property consists of two charming buildings: La Casa Grande (The Big House) and El Pajar (The Haystack), accommodating up to 14 guests. The restoration has preserved the original architecture, blending stone and chestnut wood to reflect the colors of the surrounding landscape, complemented by a mix of original furniture.

More than just a rural retreat, La Casa de la Maestra was created with a mission: to be a meeting place for educational reflection, where teachers and lifelong learners can rethink and deepen their approach to education. It honors a family legacy rooted in the founding of the Colegio San Patricio in Madrid and pays homage to generations of educators who believed that teaching is the key to a better world. Inspired by the values of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and the spirit of the "Pedagogical Missions," the house offers a space for metacognition and personal growth.

Guests are invited to participate in courses that blend pedagogy, philosophy, neuroscience and the arts — with workshops ranging from ecological trails, vegetable gardening and estuary navigation to theater, poetry and storytelling. Stays typically span two nights and three days, combining intellectual exploration with artistic, gastronomic and cultural experiences, under the guidance of renowned faculty members from ENAP (Enseñanza para Aprender).

La Casa Grande offers four double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a cozy library, a living room-kitchen with a fireplace, a sunny breakfast patio and a terrace next to the hórreo (granary). Guests can enjoy produce from the orchard and vegetable garden and, soon, a refreshing swim in a saltwater ditch under construction. It accommodates up to 10 guests and is available for full-house rental.

Meanwhile, El Pajar, the old haystack, has been transformed into a two-bedroom cottage, complete with a bathroom, an additional toilet, a living room-kitchen with a fireplace and a sofa bed, perfect for smaller groups or families.
