Baglio Occhipinti

Baglio Occhipinti rests quietly among the vineyards and olive groves of rural Sicily. Once a 19th-century winery, its thick stone walls and vaulted rooms still carry the imprint of their agricultural past, now reimagined as an elegant eco-retreat.

The centrepiece is the palmento, the old wine hall, transformed into a soaring living room with tall windows opening to the courtyard and a vast stone fireplace that becomes the house’s natural gathering point. Other sitting rooms, some intimate, others more generous, offer space for reading, reflection or conversation.

Guest rooms are spacious yet understated, furnished with antique Sicilian pieces that feel integral to the house. Bathrooms, tiled with traditional ceramics, echo the region’s craft heritage, while discreet comforts such as air-conditioning and heating ensure ease without compromising authenticity.

The kitchen, with its wood-burning oven and worn stone sink, remains the soulful heart of the property. It is also where the day begins: with an organic breakfast of fruits and produce sourced directly from the surrounding garden.

Outdoors, the rhythm slows further. Paths wind through vines and citrus trees before leading to the pool, hidden within the walled “Arab garden”, a serene oasis sheltered from the world. For a change of scene, the beach is just fifteen minutes away, and wine tastings at neighbouring estates deepen the connection to Sicily’s land and culture.
