Iriarte Jauregia Hotel

We love the boutique Iriarte Jauregia for many reasons, not least because of its history – it is an XVII century palace, after all - its superb renovation dating back to 2009, its sense of style and elegance. It is most pleasing to the eye, as it were, and manages to combine antique furniture and works of fine art with earthier elements such as wood, stone, glass or iron to great effect. So, the end result is a great mix of history with 21st century comfort and sophistication, as the photographs will attest.

Not one of its 19 rooms has a bad view, the reason being the wonderful location of the Iriarte Jauregia, which is situated in a gorgeous valley some 500 metres above sea level and encompassed by farmhouses, forests and mountains in the centre of Gipuzkoa. Still, it remains easy to get to, being well connected by road and only 25 minutes from downtown San Sebastian, a gorgeous city in itself and well worth exploring. Privacy also comes as standard here, whether in the rooms or the grounds. If the high stone wall protecting the large garden doesn’t do its job, then the magnificent example of large centuries old trees will. In short, historical comfort surrounded by nature.
