Cologne - What to see and do
Famous for its impressive gothic cathedral, visitors will discover that there is so much to do in one of the oldest cities in Germany. The historic old town is a great place to start with its colourful houses, cobbled streets and plenty of little independent shops to explore. Cologne is home to many world-renowned museums, the Ludwig museum being the most famous and is home to many pieces from artists such as Picasso.
The good thing about Cologne is that it is a very walkable city and when required, the transport links are good too. Taking a boat trip along the River Rhine is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
For the more active visitor, the Grüngürtel or “green belt” around the city is fantastic place for running, walking cycling or even just people-watching.
Cologne - Gastronomy
With over 1000 restaurants in the city centre, Cologne offers endless incredible food and drink options - from delicious street vendors to high-end dining, visitors will not be disappointed. A trip to the chocolate museum is an absolute must, whilst the Belgian District is home to many cool and hip bars. The “meet & eat” food market is both a farmer’s market and street food market all in one. Held every Thursday, this is the perfect chance to sample some fresh local produce.
