The Dodecanese Islands are located in the westernmost part of the Aegean
Sea, actually closer to Turkey than to the Greek mainland. Since the word
"dodeka" means "twelve" in Greek, we would love to tell you
that the archipelago consists of twelve islands. In reality, however, there are
many more, more than 150 to be exact, the majority of which are uninhabited. The
name comes from the 12 most important islands in the group.
The best-known islands, and without doubt, the most popular with travellers,
are Rhodes, Karpathos, Kos, Astypalaia, Leros, Kassos, Symi and Kalymnos. They
all have the pleasure of being located in the sunniest region of Europe and,
with 3000 hours of sunshine a year, are among the most popular tourism destinations.
No matter which island and which season you choose for your trip, a varied
holiday including fantastic beaches, traditional villages and picturesque
sunsets awaits you everywhere.

On the Dodecanese Islands there is something going on all year round.
Thanks to the good weather, they are by far not only a destination for the
summer, but for the whole year. Numerous beaches await your visit for a day of
swimming and sunbathing. A wide golden sandy beach, a secluded rocky bay or a
beach with dark volcanic sand - no wishes remain unfulfilled here. Of course,
there are also many opportunities to try out various water sports.
But there is plenty to discover in the interior of the islands, too. For
example, on Rhodes, the largest and most touristy Dodecanese Island, you will
find the Valley of the Butterflies or the Valley of the Seven Springs, where
you can hike and immerse yourself in nature. On Astypalaia, don't miss the
picturesque town of Chora, with its white cottages that climb up the hillside.
The colourful flowers everywhere you look complete the typical Greek postcard
motif.
In general, of course, the smaller and more unknown the island, the more
authentic your holiday experience will be. But even on Rhodes, you will
undoubtedly discover your personal favourite places.
