This charming unique loft/apartment is situated in the Jewish Ghetto, the location is deep in the heart of historical Rome just beside the imposing Theatre of Marcello.
The medieval “Palazzo dei Fabii”, where the property is located, was built in 1432 on top of the remains of a Roman market (the Portico of Filippo cent. II° A.D.). At the beginning of the 20th century it was converted into private apartments. "Palazzo dei Fabii" is one of the best preserved medieval buildings in Rome, its original architecture of the internal court yard makes it one of the main attractions of the “Jewish ghetto”.
Ghetto area is one of the oldest and genuine neighbourhood of Rome: here lives a part of the Jewish Roman community, which is over 2000 years old. Moreover, this beautiful archeological area features many attractions such as the marvellous Portico d’Ottavia and the imposing Theatre of Marcello, a wonderful open air Roman ruin, and the amazing Synagogue.
At night, stepping outside the building you will have the unique sensation of being immersed in the historical past of Rome's most typical quarter, famous for its many "trattoria" restaurants where one enjoy excellent food in a characteristic setting. (the Jewish cookery is probably the ‘real’ Roman cookery).
The Jewish Ghetto has a low key village atmosphere.
On weekends, especially in spring and summer, as the sun sets and the traffic roar dies down, clusters of locals meet for an early evening chat, perched on the steps or seated at the outdoor tables of one of the cafes. The position is also strategic: right on the back of the Capitol hill, Campo de’ Fiori, Navona Square, with the romantic delight of the Isola Tiberina at an arm's stretch and Trastevere, the Roman Forum and the shopping  area of the centre just a bit further.
At night, stepping outside the building you will have the unique sensation of being immersed in the historical past of Rome's most typical quarter, famous for its many "trattoria" restaurants where one enjoy excellent food in a characteristic setting.
This unique fully furnished and very quiet apartment is situated on the first floor. It is furnished with simple, but elegant oak wood furniture and wooden ceilings. Renovation of the antique brick archways, as well as the artistic hand painted frescos, give at the apartment an atmosphere of refined elegance. It features all modern amenities: air conditioning, safe, 2 LCD televisions, telephone , ADSL in wireless for internet, fully furnished bathroom (soap, shampoo, towels...etc) with Jacuzzi and shower, hair-dryer and a small but well equipped kitchen. The apartment is an open-space on two levels.
On the first level there is the kitchen a large bathroom with Jacuzzi, shower and hair-dryer, and a comfortable living room with a comfy sofa bed. On the upper deck, there is a bedroom, with a French bed and another small room with a single bed.
No gladiatorial battles were fought here, but instead Roman Theatre was on show, where 20,000 spectators could appreciate the art of stage. Even today, the city's Jewish population is concentrated in the narrow streets of the neighbourhood and maintain their traditions and customs. There is much to discover from the culture, friendly cafes, restaurants, trattorias and shops. The tourist heart of the city can easily be reached on foot and the banks of the Tiber Tive and the small Isola Tiberina are situated just yards from your home.
A self-catering holiday apartment for up to three within a 15th century building in Rome’s Jewish Ghetto, guests looking for a genuine Roman experience need look no further than the enchanting Palazzo dei Fabii. With a history all of its own, this building oozes with history and the location is deep in the heart of historical Rome.

This is a beautiful apartment in an amazing location (with the benefit of being right next to a distinctive bend in the river Tiber which makes it easy to find after a day of sight-seeing!). It is also close enough to walk to many of the tourist spots; even the Vatican is no more than half an hour walk away. (FYI I’d advise anyone going to Rome to walk everywhere, you come across some amazing sights you’d miss if you took the metro) The apartment itself is really lovely. From the outside it doesn’t look much (my girlfriend was a little concerned about what I had booked!) but once you’ve gone up the stairs and walked in its cosy, warm and very inviting. As soon as you walk through the door you’re in a rustic kitchen with the bathroom off to your right. Straight ahead of you is the living room and at the end of that are the stairs up to the bedrooms. The bedrooms are on a wooden mezzanine floor which along with the pictures and decor adds so much character to the place. The first bedroom is the main one with a door way at the end which leads to a sofa which can be used as a single bed. It’s worth knowing that the only access to this second bedroom is through the first. The second bedroom doesn’t contain a TV but we used the desk in there to watch films on our tablet PC. There are, however, TV’s in the living room and main bedroom. The food in the local area is not only amazing, it’s really cheap. From just two doors away we had two croissants and two coffees for around two euros every morning and got addicted to the risotto balls too which were only one euro each! Two doors down the other way the restaurant, Il Giardino Romano, does pizzas that start at six euros which is very cheap for anywhere, let alone Rome! I booked a transfer from and to the airport through Secret Places and the owners of the apartment which was a few Euro’s more than just getting a taxi straight from the airport but had the advantage of them knowing exactly where the apartment was. It also meant that when we arrived I was able to get the transfer driver to contact the owners so they could come and give us the key as it wasn’t altogether clear if they were meeting us there or if we were supposed to go somewhere else. It was an absolutely amazing holiday and I cannot recommend this apartment and secret places enough. The owner was incredibly helpful giving us a map and pointing out where to go when we first got there, the apartment was stunning and the location was ideal.
