We reckon any accommodation that has the word museum in the title is probably pretty special. And this is very much the case with the Museum Hotel George Molfetas.
In fact this house, built in 1895, was recognized by the Greek Ministry of Culture as a place of special importance.
Now, why is it called a "museum hotel"? Who was George Molfetas? He was one of Greece’s great satirical poets and this was his home. After his death the place was turned into a really special boutique hotel and gourmet restaurant.
It may sound clichéd, but here we have a truly singular and beautiful accommodation, subtlety renovated and full of allure and fragrance.
Six large rooms, walls that are over half a metre thick, doors and windows with massive stone framings – the whole structure from the past remains. This includes handmade furniture, much of which goes back to the early 19th century, Persian rugs, Murano chandeliers – all mixed in with more modern elements.
Still, modern technology is represented by wood burning central heating and jet showers in most of the rooms.
One thing history can’t buy, though, is a genuine welcome. Here is where Katerina, the owner, comes in. She makes the stay extra special.
